다행히 아직 11월은 끝나지 않았네요 - November Rain by Guns N' Roses
밴드 이름 제대로 spell하려고 찾아봤습니다. 이 밴드의 훌륭한 노래와 연주가 많지만 가장 대곡이고 명곡이라고 많은 사람들이 얘기하는 곡이죠. Electric guitar를 한 번이라도 잡아 보신 분이라면 Slash의 Les Paul 연주를 보고 '역시'라고 한 번 쯤은 하셨을 거고 저를 비롯한 많은 사람들은 그 비싼 Gibson Les Paul은 사지 못 하고 아류로 하나씩 사시고 했을 거라는 걸 알고 있습니다. 이 곡은 다른 어떤 곡 보다도 guitarist인 Slash가 주도하는 곡이죠.
좀 전에 Guns N' Roses라는 이름으로 한국에 왔었는데 vocalist의 배 나온 모습과 또 기대를 따르지 못 하는 노래와 연주로 많은 사람들이 실망했었다는 얘기도 들었습니다.

9월이 끝난지가 벌써 언젠데 이제 생각이 났네요. 여름이 끝나는 서운함을 노래한 곡은 참 많지만 항상 생각나는 노래입니다. Music video는 화질도 좋고 음질도 괜찮지만 좀 오바라고 생각되네요. Green Day라는 band가 얼마나 많은 사람들이 쳐다 보는 밴드가 되었는지도 생각하게 됩니다. 그래도 그런 대로 볼 만 합니다.

항상 다르다고 생각합니다 - Regina Spektor
말이든 글이든 앞뒤의 문맥을 잘 들어야 맞네 틀리네 등을 얘기할 수 있기는 합니다. 흔히 듣는 말중에 '사람들이 다 똑같지', '한국사람들이 다 그렇지' 하는 얘기를 들을 때마다 저는 안 그렇다고 저 혼자 생각하곤 합니다. 저는 항상 사람들은 다르다고 보죠. 이렇게 생각하는 사람 저렇게 보는 사람, 이런 면을 좋아 하는 사람 또는 싫어하는 사람 등 때마다 경우마다 다른 경우가 너무 흔하다고 생각합니다. 음악도 그런 면에서 개성 있는 음악을 좋아합니다. 재밌다고 할 수는 없을 지는 몰라도 나름 대로 특이하고 기억 나는 영화인 '500 days of Summer'를 통해서 알게 된 가수인데. 제 Music player에서 나올 때 마다 volume을 높이게 됩니다. 좀 다르고 그래서 좋습니다.

아주 오랫 동안 - Kiroro의 노래들
'Superstar K'라는 프로그램을 많이 보지는 않았습니다만 정말 노래로 승부하는 사람들을 밀어주는 내용이라는 것을 신문에서 읽었을 때 이 사람들을 생각했고요. 며칠 전 여자분 두 분이 어떤 남자 가수가 아무리 노래를 잘 해도 TV에서 보면 외모 때문에 감동이 훨씬 덜 한다는 노래를 들었을 때에는 이 노래를 생각했습니다. 둘을 조합하면 '못 생겼지만 노래는 잘 하는 사람들'이라는 얘기인데 제가 써놓고도 인정하기가 싫으네요. 제 자신 그저 노래가 맑고 좋습니다. 아주 오래 전의 노래라 아래의 링크에서도 좋은 음질로 들을 수 없는 것이 안타깝습니다. 이 노래가 처음 나오기 시작할 때 일본에 방문 중이였는데 감동이였습니다.

어느 때부터인가 Jazz도 열심히 듣고 있어요 - Giovanni Mirabassi
저는 주로 rock이나 pop을 듣는 사람이고 뭔가 머릿 속이 복잡하고 할 때는 classic음악에 의존하고 하는 편이였습니다. 저하고 어렸을 때부터 친한 친구 하나는 항상 jazz가 좋다고 하고 제게 소개도 많이 해 주었는데 사실 Pat Metheny외에는 좋아하는 artist는 거의 없었습니다.
제가 정확하게 얘기하는 지는 모르겠지만 guitar를 워낙 좋아하다 보니 blues음악을 약간 공부하듯이 듣다가 몇 가지를 좋아하게 되었고요. 반 발 정도 더 나아가 보니 jazz도 들을 수 있더군요. 여기 글도 올려주시고 하는 분 계기로 jazz도 좀 쉬운 거부터, 아니 듣기 편한 쪽으로 듣다 보니 점점 좋아지네요. 요즘에는 시간적으로는 가장 많이 듣는 편입니다.
이 피아니스트에 대해 글을 써야겠다고 생각한 지는 몇 달이 되었습니다. 사실 좀 바쁘기도 했고 음악에 대해 여유를 가지지 못해서 머릿 속에 항상 숙제로 남아 있었습니다. 이탈리아 사람이라고 들었습니다. 이름에서도 알 수 있죠. 저는 'Cantopiano'라는 album이 맘에 들었고 열심히 듣고 있습니다만 아래에서도 보시다시피 한국에도 왔었네요. 방송할 때 보는 적은 별로 없었지만 제가 아주 좋아하는 TV Program입니다. 교육방송이 입시 준비 방송 등으로 열심히 돈 벌어서 계속 이런 프로그램 유지했으면 하는 바람을 가지고 있습니다.

너무 안타까워요 - Clapton by Eric Clapton
제가 겪었기 때문에 기억할 뿐이지 아름답거나 그런 것은 아닙니다. 옛날이나 지금이나 음악은 무지 좋아했는데요. 지금은 CD살 돈은 크게 아까워하지 않지만 어린 시절에는 Vynil이든 tape든 뭐든 사는 게 좀 부담스러웠죠. 복사판 또는 빽판이라는 걸 레코드가게에서 대놓고 팔고하던 때도 있었는데, 그건 좀 쌌기 때문에 그저 한 번 들어보려고 사도 좋았고 어떤 것들은 소위 원판보다 음질이 좋은 것을 만나는 적도 가끔씩 있었습니다.
당시 제가 Eric Clapton을 너무 좋아하거나 그런 건 아니였지만 음악 잡지 등에서 Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page와 함께 세계 3대 기타리스트라고 항상 외치고 있어서, 가끔씩 복사판으로 듣다가 언젠가 새뱃돈이든 뭐든 갑자기 조금 큰 돈이 생겨서 Eric Clapton의 새로운 음반을 원판으로 산 적이 있습니다. 대학 시절 때 이사를 많이 다녀서 왠만한 거 다 버렸지만 그 음반은 아마도 어디 있을지도 모릅니다. "No reason to cry"라는 album jacket이 아주 근사했던 음반인데 사고 나서 아주 후회했습니다. 음반이 훌륭하고 한 거는 있겠지만 제가 좋아할 만한 음악은 아니였음이 확실했습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 돈을 많이 썼기 때문에 엄청 많이 들어서 어떤 곡들이 들어가 있는지는 지금도 기억이 나네요. 나중에 알고 보니까 그 때 약물 중독에 심하게 되어 있던 때라서 제대로 연주하기가 어려웠던 때였다고 하네요.
이번 가을에 Eric형님이 "Clapton"이라는 album을 냈습니다. 몰론 저도 샀습니다. 맨 처음 곡이 "Autumn Leaves" 여서 조금 의아해 했죠. 뭐라고 말씀 드리기는 어렵지만 새롭게 느껴지는 곡들은 거의 없네요. 좀더 많이 들어봐야 할 듯 합니다. 제가 안타깝다는 것은 Eric형님 나이가 예순 다섯이라는 겁니다. 물론 기타 연주하거나 하는 데는 전혀 지장이 없겠지만 album 사진도 참 그렇고 정말 안타깝습니다.
어디에선가 John Mayer에 대해 "Eric Clapton in the making", 이렇게 표현하는 것을 읽었는데 참 적절하다고 생각했습니다. Fender Stratocaster로 주로 연주하는 것 뿐만 아니라 여러 가지로 Eric Clapton을 생각나게 만들기도 하고요, 지금 3대 기타리스트가 누구들인지는 모르겠지만 지금 현재도 그렇고 미래에는 더욱더 대가가 되어 있을 것으로 생각합니다.
"Clapton" 앨범은 아주 듣기 편한 곡들이 많아서 Eric형님의 전설에 대해 잘 몰라도 그냥 편하게 들을 수 있을 것으로 생각합니다.

그래도 혹시 위안을 얻지 못 하시면 - All alright by Sigur Ros
바로 아래 있는 약이 강한 약이기 때문에 많은 분들에게 제대로 들을 것으로 생각하지만 그래도 체질 상의 이유 때문에 (클래식 종류는 안 듣는다) 아예 시도하고 싶지 않으시거나 비교적 긴 Gorecki의 symphony를 들었는데요 별 효험이 없다고 하시면 이 음악과 노래를 시도해 보시면 어떨까 합니다. 두 음악 다 나쁜 부작용은 없을 것으로 알고 있습니다.
제게 세상에서 가장 exotic 또는 이국적이라고 생각되는 Iceland사람들인 것으로 알고 있지만 틀리면 고쳐 주세요.

슬프고 또 슬플 때 - Symphony Number Three by Gorecki
이 음악에 대해서 처음 신문에서 읽었을 때가 생생히 기억납니다. '세상에서 가장 슬픈 곡'이라는 제목의 글이였고요. 물론 점심시간이든 제가 시간을 낼 수 있을 때 뛰어 가서 CD를 사고 아마도 차에서 맨 처음 연주를 들을려고 했었습니다. 아무 소리가 들리지 않아서 분명히 제 차의 audio system이 고장이 났을 것으로 생각했었죠. 음악은 훌륭했고 처음부터 좋았지만 왜 세상에서 제일 슬픈 음악이라는 건지는 모르겠더군요. 뒷 부분으로 가면 여성 성악가의 음성이 들리는데 제가 알아들을 수 있는 언어가 아니였습니다. 나중에 찾아보니 작곡가의 고향인 폴란드어였다고 하네요. 가끔씩 정말 절망스럽고 슬플 때 이 곡을 찾아서 듣습니다. 자주 듣지는 않고요. 머리 아플 때 먹는 두통약이 제게 혹시 안 듣는 경우가 생길까봐 조심스럽게 아주 가끔씩 쓰듯이 그렇게 하고 있습니다. 멀쩡한 토요일에 이런 슬픈 곡을 들을 이유는 없겠지만 여전히 음악은 아주 훌륭합니다. 갑자기 클래식을 추천해서 좀 안 맞을 수도 있겠지만 적어도 passion에 관한 한 그리고 음악 전개에 관한 한 항상 클래식음악과 rock은 닿아 있다고 저는 생각하기 때문에 제게는 자연스러운 일이라고 주장하고 싶네요.

가을 타시나요? - The luckiest by Ben Folds Five
어제 이 질문을 받았는데요. 잘 모르겠으면 잘 모르겠다고 하면 될텐데 가끔씩 제가 하는 것처럼 "아니요"하고 잘라서 말했습니다. 사실 지금 현재 가을을 타고 있지는 않다는 것이 제가 제 자신에 대해서 할 수 있는 정확한 말이기는 했지만, 묻는 상대방은 뭔가 대화를 해 보려고 한 게 아닌가 하고 생각해 보면 '난 대화하고 싶지 않다'하고 대꾸한 셈이 되어서 좀 그렇습니다. 아주 바쁘지 않으면 한 달에 한 번쯤 저를 도와 주는 분이고 서로 안 지가 몇 년 되었는데도요. 가을을 탄다는 건 외로움을 느끼고 좀 sentimental해 진다는 거겠죠? 그래서 이 사람들이 생각났습니다. 이 노래 말고도 너무 멋진 노래를 많이 했습니다. '피아노 치면서 훌륭한 노래를 부르는' 아티스트입니다.

'아직도 종이 신문을 보고 있냐고', 하는 질문을 저는 받은 적이 없지만 주변에서는 가끔씩 받는 모양입니다. 저는 책, 노트장 등 종이로 만들어 진 걸 아주 좋아하고 또 그렇다고 떠들고 있어서 제게 그런 얘기 안 묻는 거겠죠. 주말판을 특히 좋아하는데요. 별 관심 없는 정치 얘기들이 조금 덜 나오고 그 만큼 다른 볼 만한 것들이 많이 나와서요. 정치 성향과 관계 없이 재밌는 기사가 많아서 조선일보를 보고 있는데 토요일에 제게는 흥미 있는 인터뷰 기사가 나왔습니다.

타블로 사건을 보면서 인터넷 자체가 좀 무섭고 인용하기도 좀 두렵지만 조금만 인터뷰에서 인용하겠습니다. 제 싸이트는 별로 보시는 분도 없고 하니 괜찮겠죠?

제 두 대의 dream guitar가 나오는 - I'm feeling you by Michelle Branch and Santana
확인할 수는 없지만 제가 바로 아래 얘기한 가수와 이 여자 가수가 아마 비슷한 시기에 히트곡을 내지 않았나 하고 생각하고 있습니다. 연상이 되더라고요. 수천 보 (마일은 너무하고요) 떨어져서 들어도 Santana의 guitar소리는 알아차릴 수 있을 듯합니다. 사실 아주 독특한 tone은 아닌데 이제 다른 사람들은 비슷한 소리로 연주하기가 뭐 할 듯 합니다. 제가 이미 얘기했는지 기억이 좀 가물가물하지만 Santana는 PRS라는 maker의 guitar를 쓰고 있습니다. 예전에는 Gibson SG와 비슷하게 생긴 Yamaha의 무지 무거운 기타를 쓰곤 했죠. 유감스럽게도 저는 구경만 하고 손을 대는 영광은 아직 얻지 못했습니다. 옆의 Michelle의 guitar는 logo도 선명한 Gibson인데 소리가 거의 들리지 않아 안타깝습니다. 이 기타는 몸집이 상당히 큰데 이 아가씨도 아마 몸이 작지는 않은 모양입니다. 제가 몇 번 얘기한 Patty Griffin이 잡는 경우 body가 얼마나 큰 지 보이죠.

piano 못 치더라도 이런 피아노는 가졌으면 합니다 - A thousand miles by Vanessa Carlton
제가 전에 여기서 소개했던, 일주일 안에 피아노 죽이게 치게끔 가르쳐 주는 혹은 그런 생각을 가지게 만드는 책을 사신 분이 있으시네요. 네 우리 나라 책들은 별로 안 비싸잖아요. 점심 조금 세게 먹으면 훨씬 돈 많이 쓰게 되죠. 조그만 장소에 살면 짐 되서 나쁘다고 생각들 때도 있지만 그래도 제가 열심히 읽은 책들이 주변에 있으면 저는 참 따뜻한 느낌이 듭니다. 오늘 걸어보니까 이제 따뜻하다는 말을 쓰기 시작해도 되지 않나 하고 느꼈습니다.
이 아가씨 이 노래 이후로는 비교적 조용하네요. 좋은 노래를 냈는데 제가 모를 확률이 더 크고요. 비디오에 나오는 피아노가 아주 멋지다고 생각했습니다. 기타가 줄줄히 서있는데 시간 날 때 마다 악기 싸이트에 들어가서 어 하면서 보고 있는 제 자신이 또 생각나기도 하고요.
여전히 기타 보다는 피아노 자체와 피아노 연주가 훨씬 매력적이라고 생각합니다. 순전히 개인적인 느낌이고요.

너무 행복해 지는 기분이에요 - The good times are coming by Cass Elliot
한국에 있을 때도 그렇고 어디 돌아다닐 때면 특히 더 주말자 신문 보는 것을 좋아합니다. 평소보더 훨씬 두꺼우면서 제가 별로 좋아하지 않는 정치 얘기는 별로 없고 그 외에 재밌는 내용이 많이 나와서요. 주말 신문을 볼 때마다 일요일 낮에 EBS에서 보여 주는 명화들을 보고 싶어 하는데 실제로 본 적은 거의 없습니다.
한참 전에 Monte Walsh라는 서부 영화를 우연히 본 적이 있습니다. 우연히 보게 되었는데 열심히 보게 되더군요. 집안 식구를 어디 데려다 줘야 할 일이 생겨서 끝까지 보지는 못 했습니다. 갔다 와서 다시 한 번 보고 싶어 여기저기 찾고 있습니다만 현재까지는 구하지 못했습니다. 영화 뒷 부분에 나오는 행복한 분위기의 노래도 참 좋았습니다. Mamas and Papas의 여자 가수가 불렀다고 하네요. 내용도 좋고한 노래지만 약간 슬프게도 느껴지는 건 이 노래를 불렀던 사람도 아주 열심히 활동하던 시절에 사고사 또는 자살했다고 하고요, 영화의 주요 인물들도 영화 속에서 행복함은 이루지 못한 것을 제가 알아서 일까요?

전 이제 뭐든지 할 수 있어요 - I'm ready by Jack's Mannequin
노래도 좋지만 이 밴드의 스토리를 읽어볼 만 합니다. 데뷰할 때만해도 이 밴드를 리드하고 있던 사람이 백혈병 진단을 받았었다고 합니다. 지금은 완치되어서 활동하고 있다고 하네요. 저 혼자 그렇게 생각이 드는지 몰라도 이 노래를 들을 때마다 죽을 병에 걸린 사람도 의지를 가지고 그렇게 하는데 하는 생각을 합니다.

항상 뭔가가 있어요 - Always something by Switchfoot
노래방에 가는 거 자체는 나쁘지 않다고 생각합니다. 노래 부르는 동안은 술좀 덜 마시고 고함치는 거는 호흡에도 나쁘지 않다고 생각하고요. 다만 사람들이 좋아할 만한 노래를 선택해서 불러야 하는 게 좀 그렇습니다. 어차피 잘 듣지도 않을 건데도 불구하고요. 제가 여기 나열한 노래들을 보시면 예상을 하시겠지만 여기 있는 노래들 중의 뭔가를 시도한다면 모두 분위기 깬다고 하겠죠. 의도는 없지만요.

요즘 열심히 듣고 있습니다 - Tall Cotton by Eric Bibb
Jazz를 좋아하시는 분을 알게 되어서 저도 Pat Metheny 말고 다른 Jazz도 좀 들어보려고 하고 있습니다만 익숙하지가 않아서 여전히 공부하듯이 듣고 있는 편입니다. Blues는 좀 와 닿습니다. 이 artist는 제가 좋아하는 조합을 가지고 있습니다. 주로 어쿠스틱 기타를 연주하고 곡조가 단조 계열이죠. 이 노래를 들으면 건들건들 목화밭을 걷는 모습이 떠오릅니다.

Club 이란 데 가보고 싶기도 하네요 - Beautiful by Everything but the Girl
제가 아는 사람 중에 제일 젊고 저랑 대화할 수 있는 사람이 있습니다. 사람이라는 표현을 쓰는 것이 좀 이상하긴 하지만요. 밤 늦게 클럽 간다고 할 때마다 그냥 그러려니 하고 했었는데요. 언젠가 좋은 시스템으로 음악을 듣기 위해서 간다고 말하더군요. 그 소릴 듣고 나니 제 자신도 그런 데 가서 음악을 들어 보고 싶은 생각이 들었습니다. 커다란 스피커에서 들리는 소리를 듣고 싶어서요. 작은 기타 앰프도 집에서 하다 보니 아주 낮은 레벨에 맞춰야 하는 면이 가끔씩 안타깝다고 생각이 들기도 했었거든요.

이게 미국이 맞는지 - This is not America by David Bowie and Pat Metheny
Double Dip이 되었든지 뭐든지 하여간 요즘 여러 가지로 몇 년째 전 세계 사람들을 괴롭히고 있죠. 저를 포함한 많은 사람들이 그저 익숙한 게 편해서 미국이 잘 되기를 기대하고 당연하다고 생각하는 게 깔려 있을 듯도 합니다.
이 음악도 망설이다 소개합니다. 영화 주제가였는데 영화도 별로였고 두 사람의 명성에 맞지 않는 수준의 음악이였다고 생각하기 때문에요. 그냥 'This cannot be David and Pat' 정도의 제목이였으면 저를 포함한 많은 사람들이 고개를 끄덕였을지도 모릅니다. 영화는 미국의 정보를 적국에 빼돌리는 스파이에 대한 것이였던 것으로 기억하는데 졸렸습니다.

요즘 어떻게 지내세요? - These days by Nico
혹시 저를 진짜로 이해하고 싶은 사람이 있다면 아마도 Wes Anderson의 영화를 몇 개 보라고 할 겁니다. 물론 그 사람 영화의 문법이 낯설다면 아마도 fast forward를 찾게 될 것이고 저를 이해하는 것도 그만 두게 되지 않을까 생각합니다. 지금까지는 과장이였습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 Wes Anderson의 영화를 굉장히 좋아하는 것이 사실입니다. 실망스러운 것도 있었지만 이 video를 보니 제가 DVD를 다 가지고 있다는 것을 또 알게 되네요.
오랜 만에 보는 사람들에게 요즘 어떻게 지내셨냐고 묻게 되지요. 잘 지냈는지 아닌지, 이런 답도 나오겠지만 가끔 아래 가사 같은 답도 나오지 않을까 해서요.

꽤 우울하죠? 세상은 항상 보기 나름이라고 생각합니다. Wes Anderson을 좋아하는 이유 중의 하나는 이런 노래들을 찾아 내서 다시 듣게끔 해주는 겁니다. Jackson Browne이 만든 노래라네요. "Stay", "Running on Empty" 같은 좀 심각한 노래들 불렀었죠. 네, 제 자신이 언제 가볍고 즐거운 노래들을 좋아하게 될 지 잘 모르겠습니다. 쏘 쏘리

9월이 다가오는데요. 좋은 기억은 아니지만 9/11이 생각이 납니다. 뭘하고 그 시간에 들어왔는지는 잘 모르겠지만 늦게 들어왔는데 TV에서 막 보여주던 장면을 아마도 계속 잊지못할 거라고 생각합니다. Terror라고는 생각지 못하고 사고라고 모든 사람들이 생각했을 겁니다. 요즘은 우리 나라사람들도 많이 쓰는 단어가 되었지만 trauma로 많은 사람들이 기억하게 되겠죠. 그런 단어 안 쓰는 세상이 더욱 좋겠지만요.

저는 Fender일 거라고 확신하고 있습니다만 - Each Time by East 17
이런 카랑카랑한 소리를 내고 싶고 듣고 싶어서 Fender를 사고 연주하고 하지 않나 합니다. 물론 Stratocaster나 Telecaster가 아닐 수도 있겠죠. 이 아저씨들의 목소리나 분위기도 guitar소리와 상당히 닮아서 상쾌하지 않은가 합니다. 노래 내용은 좀 슬픈 점도 있다고는 생각하지만요. 아저씨들 모습은 좀 어설프게 보입니다. 백인들이 흑인들 흉내내는 그런 스타일이죠.

절망의 절정에서 쓰여진 음악이 아닐까요? - Exit music (for a film) by Radiohead
이 band 멤버들의 외모를 보면서 'Creep'이라는 노래가 너무 잘 어울린다고 생각했었습니다. 잘 생기고 못 생기고를 떠나서 전면에 나선 싱어/리더에게 그 단어가 좀 어울리는 편이죠. 요즘은 곡을 하나씩 주로 듣는 것이 추세라고 알고 있습니다만 여전히 album을 들고 나오고 있고 막무가내로 밀어부치고 있다는 인상인데 다 훌륭했다고 생각합니다. 한 곡을 소개하면서 여러 가지로 죄책감을 느끼고 있으니 몇 개의 album을 들어보시기 바랍니다. 저 혼자 느끼는지 모르겠지만 제가 위에 쓴 대로 절망의 극에서 이런 음악들을 만드는 것이 아닌가 하는 상상을 해 봤습니다.
영화 끝날 때 나오는 음악을 얘기하는 것이 아닌가 했습니다. 가사를 읽어 보면 별 관계 없는 듯도 하고요. 많은 영화 감독들이 그 음악에 공을 기울인다는 생각입니다. 얼마 전에 본 Crazy Heart라는 한 물 간 country 가수를 따라다니는 영화의 주제가 'weary kind'도 맨 끝에 나왔던 듯 하고요. 최근에 감동 많이 받았던 'In the Air'라는 영화의 끝에도 실제로 직업을 잃은 경험을 가진 사람이 그것에 대해 쓴 노래가 마지막에 나왔었죠? 영화관에서는 안 그럴지도 모르지만 집에서는 ending credit이 다 끝날 때까지 보는 편(아니 듣는 편)입니다. 좋은 음악이 나오는 적이 많아서요.

아무리 위대한 그룹이라도 - Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
물론 '천국으로 가는 계단', 등등이 있는데 이 곡이 Led Zeppelin의 대표곡이라고 하면 혼나겠죠. 이러한 위대한 그룹들은 그래도 두 손으로 꼽아도 모자랄 만큼의 곡들은 남기고 있죠. 제가 이 곡에 대해서 쓰는 것은 이 곡을 들을 때마다 band가 가장 여러 가지 힘이 넘칠 때 나온 곡이라고 느껴져서요. 저 혼자만의 생각인지 몰라도 rock 음악은 힘이 느껴져야 좋지 않나 합니다. 가사를 읽어 봐도 뭔 소린지 잘 모르겠습니다. 예전에 공연하면서 Robert Plant가 어떻게 외워서 불렀나 모르겠습니다. 약이나 술에 쩔어서 끄적거린 거 아닐까 하는 생각이 들고요. 아, 가사도 위대한 가사인가요? 공항에서 비행기 기다리다가 책방에 가서 음악 잡지를 조금 들여다 봤는데요. Robert Plant는 country 음악을 열심히 하고 있다네요. 지난 번에 소위 blue grass 가수로 유명한 여자 가수와 음반 낼 때는 그냥 재미로 해 본 줄 알았는데 본격적으로 하는 모양입니다. country 음악은 Robert Plant하고 좀 안 맞지 않나 해서요. Jimmy Page 형님은 가끔씩 등장합니다. 요즘 주변에서 guitar collector들을 한 둘 보고요, 신문에서도 봤었는데요. Jimmy 형님이 쓰던 Les Paul을 찾으려고들 하시나 봐요.
다른 무엇보다도 자신들은 이 음악이 후세에 광고 음악이나 signal music으로 이렇게 많이 쓰일지는 몰랐을 거에요. 이 음악 못 들어보신 분들도 도입부는 많이 들어보셨을 겁니다. 시상식 같은 때도 많이 나오고 레슬링에서 누구 소개할 때도 나왔던 거 같고요.
제가 좋아하는 감독인 Cameron Crowe가 Rolling Stones 기자였을 때 Robert Plant와 이 곡에 대해 interview했던 내용을 인용해 봅니다. 무슨 rock vocalist가 이렇게 어려운 단어를 쓰면서 말을 이렇게 잘 하나 하는 생각이 들었습니다. Kashmir에 가보고 쓴 게 아니라는 건 여러 번 얘기했었고요, 어디 사막 비슷한 데는 갔었던 모양입니다. 아마 미국 서부가 아니였을까요?
The whole inspiration came from the fact that the road went on and on and on. It was a single-track road which neatly cut through the desert. Two miles to the East and West were ridges of sandrock. It basically looked like you were driving down a channel, this dilapidated road, and there was seemingly no end to it. 'Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dreams...' It's one of my favourites...that, 'All My Love' and 'In the Light' and two or three others really were the finest moments. But 'Kashmir' in particular. It was so positive, lyrically.
It was an amazing piece of music to write to, and an incredible challenge for me ... Because of the time signature, the whole deal of the song is… not grandiose, but powerful: it required some kind of epithet, or abstract lyrical setting about the whole idea of life being an adventure and being a series of illuminated moments. But everything is not what you see. It was quite a task, ’cause I couldn’t sing it. It was like the song was bigger than me. It’s true: I was petrified, it’s true. It was painful; I was virtually in tears..

불꽃놀이를 보고는요 - Glitter in the sky by Pink
며칠 동안 싱가폴에 갔다 왔는데요. 저는 잘 알지 못 하던 거였는데 Youth Olympic Game을 하느라고 법석이더라고요. 제 돈으로 내는 건 아니였지만 호텔값도 엄청 올라 있고 하여간 큰 행사인 모양입니다. 한국 선수들도 양궁이라든가 태권도 등에서 여전히 멋있는 모습을 보여주고 있었습니다. 저녁을 먹는데 우연히 불꽃놀이를 오랜 만에 보게 되었습니다. 네, 또 노래가 한 두 가지 생각이 나더군요. 며칠 전에 여기에 올렸던 Katy Perry와는 다를 류로 악동 이미지로 유명한 Pink의 노래입니다. 무슨 얘기를 듣던 두 사람 다 노래는 다 좋고 아주 잘 하는 사람들이라고 생각합니다.

여름이 여기 계속 있을 것 같지만 - California Girls by Katy Perry
옆에 있던 분이 말씀하시는 걸 들었는데 오늘이 아마도 말복이였나 보죠. 산쪽에 갔다 왔는데 오후 늦게는 바람을 조금 느낄 수 있었습니다. 산속이라서 그랬을지도 모르고요. 어제가 입추였다는 말도 들었습니다. 물론 이런 말을 하시는 분은 약간 나이가 드신 분이였고요.
오늘은 제가 평소에 소개하는 심각함, 처짐, 슬픔 이런 데서 좀 벗어나 여름에 해변에서 들을 노래들을 좀 알려드릴까 합니다. 사실 워낙 나름 대로 다 힛트한 노래여서 소개라는 말은 좀 이상하네요. 혹시 안 들어보셨으면 남은 여름 동안 들으시라고요.
가끔 미국에서 candy shop이란 데를 지나 가다 보면 이렇게 다양한 종류의 단 과자 또는 사탕을 이렇게 많이 갔다 놓을 수도 있구나 하는 생각을 하곤 했었는데요. 이 비디오도 아마 그런 가게를 생각하고 만든 것이 아닌가 하는 생각이 듭니다. 작년 이 맘 때쯤인가 정말 미국을 휩쓴다고 할 정도로 인기 있던 가수였는데 한 동안은 좀 잠잠하길래 뭐하나 했었는데 이런 노래를 부르고 있었네요.
제 자신이 즐겨 듣는 종류의 노래는 아니지만 그 전의 앨범에 있는 노래들은 열심히 들었었습니다. 목사님 따님이라는 이미지는 거의 없죠. 스눕 독이 나온 것도 그렇고 몇 장면들과 몇 군데 가사도 조금 지나치다고 생각하지만 요즘 뭐...튀는 외모나 언행 때문에 가려지긴 하지만 노래도 잘하고 rock적인 바탕을 둔 음악도 좋다고 생각합니다. 저로서는 캔디 색깔의 Les Paul을 들고 나온 사진을 보고 본격적으로 좋아하기 시작했다고 하는 것이 솔직한 얘기일 듯 합니다.

밴드 하셨으면 한 번쯤은 시도했을 - Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group
요즘은 2차를 가게 되면 잘 기억 못 하는 적이 많아서 정확하게 위치가 어떻게 되는지는 모르겠습니다만 얼마 전에 기타, 베이스, 드럼 트리오로 연주하시는 밴드가 있는 기타리스트인 분이 주인장이신 집에 가서 음악을 들으면서 한 잔 한 적이 있습니다. 오랜만에 친구들을 만나서 신나게 떠들어서 이 곳에 가기 전에도 기분은 좋았었습니다. 밴드가 여러 곡을 하셨지만 이 곡이 기억이 나네요. 저도 여러 번 시도했던 기억이 있습니다. 그 날 밴드에는 키보드가 없어서 이 비디오와 같은 기분은 나지 않았지만 다른 느낌으로 좋았습니다. 나이론줄 기타를 비롯해서 두 세가지 기타를 쓰셨지만 Fender Strat이 제일 기억에 남네요. Edgar, Johnny Winter 두 형제는 개성이 강한 좋은 곡을 많이 남겼다고 생각합니다. Johnny 형님은 blues쪽으로 좋은 연주를 많이 했었죠.

John Lennon이 없는 Beatles를 Beatles라고 부를 수 없는 것처럼 Roger Waters가 없는데 Pink Floyd라는 이름을 썼던 것은 잘못 된 것이 아닌가 생각합니다. video가 끊기지 않고 잘 보이면 좋겠지만 아마도 그러지 않을 가능성이 많을 듯한데요. 꼭 찾아서 들어보실 만한 음악이라고 생각합니다. 이래서 Fender Strat이라는 guitar에 집착하게 되는구나하고 느끼실 지도 모르고요.
너무 Pink Floyd의 음반들만 명반이라고 주장하는 듯해서 그런 제목은 쓰지 않았습니다만 제게는 너무 소중한 음반 중의 하나입니다. 사실 비디오도 그렇고 음질이 너무 안 좋아서 여기 적어 놓기도 그렇네요. Pink Floyd 라는 밴드를 만드는 것을 주도했다는 Syd Barret이란 사람을 생각하며 만든 곡이라고 어딘가에서 읽었습니다. Crazy Diamond, 반짝반짝하지만 광기가 강한 사람이였다고 하죠. 말년에는 비참한 쪽에 가까웠다고 하는 기사도 읽었었습니다.

에어컨 없이는 지내기 어려운 나날들이죠 - Lost without you by Robin Thicke
나름대로 더위는 남들보다 좀 덜 타는 편이라고 생각했는데 요 며칠 동안은 잠간씩 걸어다녀도 어지러울 정도로 덥네요. 에어컨을 좀 틀고 이 노래를 들으면 어떨까 하는 생각이 들었습니다. 노래 자체는 부드럽게 들리지만 여러 가수들의 창법을 이리저리 조합해 놓지않았나 하는 생각은 들었고 이 노래가 특히 좀더 그렇다고 생각합니다.

부정하기 쉽지 않은 말이에요 - Money changes everything by Cyndi Lauper
Madonna 언니랑 같은 시대에 나와서 자주 비교가 되곤 했었는데요, 사실 서로 전혀 다른 스타일이였다고 생각합니다. Madonna는 dance로 시작해서 엄청난 변화를 보여줬는데 이 언니는 정말 줄기차게 한 가지로 나가지 않았나 합니다. 아래 비디오도 정말 안 바뀌는구나하고 보게 되었습니다.
심각하게 생각하지 않아도 돈이라는 게 너무나 많은 사람들에게 너무나 많은 변화를 가져온다고 생각합니다. 부정하는 게 오히려 이상할 정도죠. 제 자신은 항상 인정하는 편입니다. 좋다 나쁘다 하고 얘기하는 것과는 별도로요. 외면을 바꾸는 것은 물론이고 사람의 내면에도 상당한 변화를 일으킨다고 봅니다. 원시 시대에도 비슷한 게 있었지 않을까 해요.

괜히 여름 노래처럼 생각이 됩니다 - Viva la vida by Coldplay
사실 제가 여기에 소개하지 않아도 너무 많이 알려져 있고, 많은 분들이 이미 좋아하고 있는 노래나 음악은 좀 피하려고 합니다만 그럼에도 불구하고 자꾸 생각이 나서요. 앞 부분은 무슨 행진곡처럼 느껴지기도 하고 운전하면서 들으면 좀더 빨리 달리고 싶은 충동이 일기도 합니다. 요즘은 좀 바빠서 운전도 별로 하지 않고 음악도 많이 듣지 못 했지만 또다시 좀 여유를 가지고 이런 노래도 들으면서 공항 가는 길이라든가를 달리고 싶기도 합니다. 제가 하도 좀 슬픈 노래쪽으로 간다는 얘기를 몇 번 가까운 분들에게 들어서 벗어나고 싶은데 이 노래도 조금 그런 면이 있기도 하죠?

왠지 이 노래 들으면 여름이 떠오릅니다
제가 어렸을 때 많이 들었던 노래이니까 아주 오래된 노래가 아닐까 합니다. 요즘은 5.1채널, 이런 표시들을 많이 보는데요. 귀가 둘인데 다섯 군데로 나누어져 들리는 음악이 어떻게 들려야 하는 건지 저는 잘 모르겠습니다. 이 노래를 들으면 왼쪽과 오른쪽에서 나뉘어져 들리는 연주나 노래 소리가 참 재밌다고 생각합니다. 죄송하게도 프랑스에서 하는 언어는 아주 기본적인 것도 잘 몰라서 내용이 어떤 건지는 잘 모르겠습니다.

글의 숫자가 200개를 다가서고 있어 지금까지 제가 적지 않은 곡들을 소개했고 해서 벌써 소개했었을 것으로 생각했습니다. 제가 알기로 album을 두 장 발표한 비교적 신인이라고 생각합니다. 처음 아래의 곡을 들었을 때 이 친구들 좀 다르다고 생각했었는데 비교적 조용하다 두 번째 album을 냈었고 아주 훌륭했습니다. 언제 낼 지는 모르겠지만 다음에도 좋은 음악을 들려주지 않을까 생각합니다.

맨날 문제아로 나오는 Linsay Lohan인데요. 예전에 어떤 영화에서도 그렇고 노래는 잘 하지 않나 합니다. 연기도 잘 한다고 생각하고요. 미국 음식은 워낙 살찌기 쉬운 음식이 많지 않나 합니다. 이 사람 저 사람 다들 다이어트 한다고 난리죠. 직장 생활 초기에 뉴욕에서는 비키니 멋있게 입어야 한다고 갈빗뼈 조정하는 수술을 한다는 얘기를 듣고 거의 기절한 기억이 있는데 이제는 우리 나라에서도 더 심한 케이스도 많이 나오지 않나 합니다. 저는 뭐라고 드릴 말씀이 없습니다. 젊은 사람이든 나이 든 사람이든 누구나 다 예쁘고 멋있고 한 것을 너무 중요하게 생각한다는 걸 제가 아니까요.
이 노래는 역시 original이 대단했다고 생각합니다. Fleetwood Mac을 완전히 바꿔버린 Stevie Nicks의 노래가 멋있죠. 안타깝게도 화질과 음질이 별로 좋지가 않습니다. 찾아서 들으실 만한 노래라고 생각합니다. 시작 부분의 Les Paul 소리 너무 멋있죠. 긴 파마 머리를 날리는 guitarist는 Waddy Wachtel이라고 당시에 여러 팀 또는 가수들하고 같이 공연하고 했습니다.
혼자 차 운전하는 것을 좋아하는 이유는 딱 한 가지 제가 좋아하는 음악을 잘 들을 수 있는 공간에서 들을 수 있어서입니다. 오늘도 그런 기회를 가질 수 있어서 아주 좋았습니다. 당연히 Rock 음악을 가면서 또 오면서 크게 들었습니다. 음악을 좋아하는 사람과 같이 타도 대화를 해야 하지 않나 하는 생각 때문에 음악을 즐기기는 어렵더군요. 제가 아래 붙여 놓은 링크의 음질이 진짜 좀 실망스럽네요. School of Rock에도 나왔던 것으로 기억합니다. 여름이고 하니 open car는 아니라고 하더라도 창문을 열고 좋아하시는 음악을 좀 시끄럽게 들어도 좋지 않을까 합니다. 위험한가요?

맨날 문제아로 나오는 Linsay Lohan인데요. 예전에 어떤 영화에서도 그렇고 노래는 잘 하지 않나 합니다. 연기도 잘 한다고 생각하고요. 미국 음식은 워낙 살찌기 쉬운 음식이 많지 않나 합니다. 이 사람 저 사람 다들 다이어트 한다고 난리죠. 직장 생활 초기에 뉴욕에서는 비키니 멋있게 입어야 한다고 갈빗뼈 조정하는 수술을 한다는 얘기를 듣고 거의 기절한 기억이 있는데 이제는 우리 나라에서도 더 심한 케이스도 많이 나오지 않나 합니다. 저는 뭐라고 드릴 말씀이 없습니다. 젊은 사람이든 나이 든 사람이든 누구나 다 예쁘고 멋있고 한 것을 너무 중요하게 생각한다는 걸 제가 아니까요.
이 노래는 역시 original이 대단했다고 생각합니다. Fleetwood Mac을 완전히 바꿔버린 Stevie Nicks의 노래가 멋있죠. 안타깝게도 화질과 음질이 별로 좋지가 않습니다. 찾아서 들으실 만한 노래라고 생각합니다. 시작 부분의 Les Paul 소리 너무 멋있죠. 긴 파마 머리를 날리는 guitarist는 Waddy Wachtel이라고 당시에 여러 팀 또는 가수들하고 같이 공연하고 했습니다.
혼자 차 운전하는 것을 좋아하는 이유는 딱 한 가지 제가 좋아하는 음악을 잘 들을 수 있는 공간에서 들을 수 있어서입니다. 오늘도 그런 기회를 가질 수 있어서 아주 좋았습니다. 당연히 Rock 음악을 가면서 또 오면서 크게 들었습니다. 음악을 좋아하는 사람과 같이 타도 대화를 해야 하지 않나 하는 생각 때문에 음악을 즐기기는 어렵더군요. 제가 아래 붙여 놓은 링크의 음질이 진짜 좀 실망스럽네요. School of Rock에도 나왔던 것으로 기억합니다. 여름이고 하니 open car는 아니라고 하더라도 창문을 열고 좋아하시는 음악을 좀 시끄럽게 들어도 좋지 않을까 합니다. 위험한가요?

Club이란 데 가 본지 너무 오래되고 모르지만요 - Gimme Sympathy by Metric
혹시 여름 휴가 다녀 오신 분들도 있겠지만 많은 분들은 계획을 세우고 예약을 하고 하는 단계 아닐까 합니다. 저는 올해를 현재까지 상당히 여유롭게 보내고 해서 휴가 계획을 하고 있지는 않지만 워낙 노는 걸 좋아해서 호시탐탐 분위기 살피고 있습니다. 어디로 가시든 평소에 음악 열심히 안 들으시던 분들도 좀 듣고 춤도 좀 추고 하지 않으실까 상상하고 있습니다.

'진화하는 guitarist'는 평을 읽었습니다. 아마도 철수 형님의 책에서였던 것으로 기억합니다. 원래도 CD 발표하면 무조건 사는 artist이고 아직 젊은 나이에 자기 자신의 Fender Stratocaster 기타 모델을 가지고 있어서 대단하다고 생각하던 참이었습니다. 위의 평을 읽고 다시 제가 가지고 있던 CD들을 하나하나 발표된 연도에 따라 들어봤습니다. 물론 모든 곡을 다 들은 건 아닙니다. 제가 ID를 serious music lover로 쓰고 있긴 하지만 요즘은 그렇게 까지 시간이 있지는 못 해서요. 네, 너무 맞는 평이라고 생각했습니다. 'Eric Clapton in the making' 제가 original인지는 모르겠지만 그렇게 얘기하고 싶습니다. 제 말이든 철수 형님 말이든 John Mayer를 좀더 가깝게 느끼고 그의 음악을 사랑하게 되면 어쨌든 좋습니다.

또 하나의 여름 노래 - She loves everybody by Chester French
강시들 노래하고 비슷한 면도 좀 있습니다. 도입 부분에 한숨 소리 내는 것도 있고요 리듬도 좀 비슷하게 느껴집니다. 아주 젊어 보이는 친구이니까 강시들 노래를 열심히 듣지는 않았을 듯 하지만요. 저는 차 안에서 라디오에서 들었는데 보통 많이 얘기하는 대로 쏙쏙 들어온다는 느낌을 가졌습니다.

여름이면 항상 생각나는 노래 - The Time of the Season by the Zombies
건전하게 생긴 청년들인데 이름을 왜 '강시들'이라고 지었는지 모르겠습니다. 이 노래말고도 좋은 노래들을 많이 발표했었고요 저도 'Greatest Hits' album을 종종 듣고 있습니다. 재밌는 것은 stereo sound가 아주 강조된다는 거죠. 왼쪽과 오른 쪽에서 나오는 소리가 확연하게 다릅니다. 요즘은 훨씬 많은 채널로 나오는 것으로 아는데 저는 그렇게 즐기지는 못하고 있으니 음악을 제대로 듣지 못 하는 걸까요?

할머니의 따뜻한 모습이 기억나시나요? - Mary by Patty Griffin
요즘은 자식도 잘 낳지 않고 하니 할머니 할아버지를 만나거나 볼 기회는 더욱 적겠죠. 제 자신은 할머니라는 말을 들으면 항상 가슴이 따뜻해 짐을 느낍니다. 제 경우는 아주 직접 관련된 할머니는 안 계셨지만 할머니라고 부를 만한 분들이 주변에 계셔서 맛있는 반찬을 해주고 토닥거리고 해 줄 분을 가끔씩 볼 수 있었습니다. 다행이죠, 제가 그런 기억을 가지고 있다는 것이. 저도 그런 기억을 누군가에게 가능하면 여러 사람에게 주고 싶거든요.

지금 제가 가장 좋아하는 guitarist - Electric Gypsy by Andy Timmons
air guitar 라고 들어보셨나요? 아무 것도 들지 않던지 아니면 guitar 모양처럼 생긴 걸 들고 guitar치는 흉내를 말하는 것으로 알고 있습니다. 지금 제가 말하는 guitarist 뿐만 아니고 다른 수 많은 guitarist처럼 일 부분이라도 guitar를 연주할 수 있었으면 하고 가상으로 연주를 많이 하곤 했습니다.

벌써 한 여름 느낌이네요 - July Morning by Uriah Heep
7월 되면 이 노래에 대해서 얘기해야지 하고 있었는데 서울 근방은 30도 가까이 가는 바람에 기다리지를 못 하겠네요. 저는 참 좋아했던 band인데 활동하던 때에도 그렇고 지금까지도 그리 훌륭한 band라고 칭찬받지는 않는 모양입니다. 이상하게 생각됩니다. 이 곡을 들으면 Deep Purple의 어떤 심각한 곡 못지 않다고 생각되고 다른 곡들도 연주나 vocal이나 전개 방식이 다 좋다고 생각하거든요. 아마도 Deep Purple의 아류라고 몰아갔던 게 아닌가 합니다. Aerosmith 가 처음 나올 때 Rolling Stones 의 아류로 간주했던 것하고 비슷한 거 아닐까요? 전 평론가도 아니고 음악 좋아하는 사람일 뿐이니까 별 관계는 없습니다만 그런 글들을 읽으면 좀 김샌다고나 할까요?

다른 견해와 사는 방식을 포용하는 방법 - Bad Education by Pedro Almodovar
어젯밤부터 오늘 지금 현재까지 이 영화가 많이 떠올랐습니다. 요즘 TV에서 남자들 간의 교제를 가지고 이야기 거리를 많이 만들고 있더군요. 제가 겪은 최초의 경험은 프랑스 파리를 갔었을 때였는데요, 분수가 있는 광장에서 남자 연인들이 아주 찐한 장면을 보여 주는 커플들이 꽤 많이 있었습니다. 물론 남녀 연인들이 더 많이 있었고요. 얘기는 많이 들었지만 제게는 좀 충격적이였습니다. 지금도 아무렇지도 않다고 말씀드릴 수는 없겠고요. 거리를 걷다가 보면 남자들끼리의 관계를 다룬 잡지들도 많이 있었습니다.
다른 경험도 죄송스럽게 프랑스 사람에 대한 건데요. 제가 프랑스회사에서 일할 때의 일이였습니다. 어느날 어떤 사람이 자기 비서한테 소리를 마구 지르는 걸 봤는데요. 그 사람이 한국에 와서 한국인 남자 애인을 사귄 모양인데, 비서가 전화를 받고 제대로 메모를 못 해놨다고 그 난리를 치는 거였습니다. 좀 낯설다는 느낌이 들었습니다.
제가 여기서 Almodovar 감독을 너무 칭찬을 많이 한 듯 싶어서 그냥 영화를 한 번 봐 보시라고만 하겠습니다. 이런 식으로 전혀 다른 사람들을 어떤 식으로든 괴롭히지 않고 서로 평화적으로 지내는 건 쉽지 않을 것으로 생각하고 그렇게 할 수 있도록 배워야 한다고 봅니다. 미국에서는 minority의 일종으로 생각해서 승진도 다른 사람들보다 더 잘 되고 하는 면도 있더라고요.
저도 어제 선거에 참여했지만 여전히 우리 나라 사람들끼리 대결을 하는 식으로 몰아가는 면이 약간은 있지 않나 합니다. 누가 이기면 되고 누가 이기면 안 되고 하는 건 없잖아요?
Almodovar를 다시 떠올리게 된 다른 이유는 오늘 밤에 스페인과 축구 경기를 하기 때문이기도 합니다. 강력한 우승 후보라고 하죠. 여러 번 말씀 드렸지만 여러 색을 참 자유롭게 쓰는 나라라고 생각합니다. 벽의 색이라든가 사람들 옷 색깔이 쎈 편이지만 잘 조화를 이루고 있는 것으로 보입니다.

해 보신 적 있나요? - Rubik's cube by Athlete
성공한 적 있냐고 물어보는 게 더 적절하겠네요. 여섯 면이 서로 다른 색으로 이루어져있고 같은 색으로 각각의 면을 맞추는 정육면체를 말하는 겁니다. 저는 몇 번 시도해 보다가 아주 쉽게 포기했던 기억이 있습니다.

Madonna도 초기에는 이 쪽 아니였나요? - Underneath your clothes by Shakira
제가 아는 중에서는 가장 sexy한 여자 가수가 아닌가 합니다. 혹시 노래를 잘 못하거나 한다고 생각하실 수도 있겠지만 제가 듣기로는 꽤 잘 한다고 생각합니다. 노래하는 style이 맘에 든다 안 든다 하실 수는 있겠고요. 제가 왜 Madonna를 생각했냐면 그 언니도 가끔씩 굵은 목소리도 내다가 하는 재주를 피우고 하는 게 생각나서요. 물론 Madonna는 엄청나게 대단하다고 생각합니다. 비교 대상이 아니죠. 이 언니는 기교가 더 강하네요.

높은 곳을 무서워하기는 하지만 저도 가끔씩 날고 싶다고 얘기한 기억이 있습니다. 제 정신에서는 조금 벗어나 있었을 거라고 생각하지만요. 요즘은 blues와 jazz를 들어보려고 하고 있습니다. 제가 잘 모르기도 하고 잘 안 들었던 분야인데 좋은 곡들이 많이 있을 거라는 확신이 갑자기 생겨서요. Randy Crawford는 장르를 떠나 훌륭한 가수라고 생각합니다. 예전에 어떤 화장품 광고에 쓰였던 'Almaz'라는 노래 때문에 우리나라에서도 꽤 많이 알려져 있는 것으로 알고 있습니다. 그 노래도 마음이 저려오는 노래이지만 그 외에도 좋은 노래를 아주 많이 불렀었고 여기에서 제가 'Everything must change'라는 노래를 소개했었더군요.

재미 있는 사랑 노래 - Nine million bicycles by Katie Melua
어떤 종류의 사랑이 건 사랑의 감정 만큼이나 사람에게 영감을 주는 건 없지 않나 생각 합니다. 시든 노래든 관심 없던 사람들도 사랑에 빠지면 시도 쓰고 노래도 흥얼거리게 되죠. 사랑에 대한 노래가 너무 많아서 Paul McCartney는 'Silly love songs"라는 노래도 만들어서 불렀었잖아요.
누군가를 진정으로 사랑해도 처음부터 '사랑 아니면 죽음을'만을 외치면 질려서 도망 가더래도 할 말이 없을 것으로 생각합니다. 최근에 들은 우리나라 노래의 가사의 한 부분입니다. 일본에서 80년대 중반에 힛트했던 노래인데 한국말로 가사를 부쳤더군요.
가사를 읽어보시고 노래를 들으면 조용히 웃게 되지 않을까 합니다. 저는 적어도 그렇게 기대합니다. 사랑하면 이 노래에서처럼 억지를 쓰게 되기도 하나 봅니다.

요즘 예전에 읽었던 'East of Eden'을 영어 공부하자고 해서 다시 읽고 있는데 지난 번에 읽었을 때와 느낌이 전혀 다르더군요. 첫번째 읽을 때에는 그야 말로 악마 같은 여자의 character에 충격 받고 놀랐는데 이번에는 Lee라는 중국 사람에게 가장 큰 인상을 받고 있습니다. 미국에서 태어난 중국사람인데 중간중간 정말 철학적이고 교훈적인 말을 하고 있어서 계속 메모하고 있습니다. 이 노래에 중국 얘기가 나와서 생각이 났지요, 물론.

요즘 예전에 읽었던 'East of Eden'을 영어 공부하자고 해서 다시 읽고 있는데 지난 번에 읽었을 때와 느낌이 전혀 다르더군요. 첫번째 읽을 때에는 그야 말로 악마 같은 여자의 character에 충격 받고 놀랐는데 이번에는 Lee라는 중국 사람에게 가장 큰 인상을 받고 있습니다. 미국에서 태어난 중국사람인데 중간중간 정말 철학적이고 교훈적인 말을 하고 있어서 계속 메모하고 있습니다. 이 노래에 중국 얘기가 나와서 생각이 났지요, 물론.

Guitar 이야기 # 5- Telecaster (The Messiah will come again by Roy Buchanan)
좀 찔립니다. 이 기타 만져본 적도 없을 뿐만 아니라 가까이서 본 적도 없어서요. 게다가 앞으로도 이 기타를 가질 계획은 없습니다. 제게는 너무 어렵게 느껴져서요. 많은 사람들이 쓰지는 않는 것으로 알고 있습니다. 그 사람들은 다 특이한 소리를 들려주더군요. Roy Buchanan이라는 전설에 가까운 guitarist가 연주와 낭독(?)을 한 아래 곡을 들어 보시면 저와 같은 생각에서 조금 벗어나시지 않을까 합니다. 전설에 가까운 기타를 제가 좀 깎아 내리고 있지 않나 해서 좀 더 찔립니다.
