5월이 계절의 여왕이라는 것에는 당연히 동의합니다. 5월, 10월에 시험 공부 하지 않아도 되는 신분이라 감사해 하고 즐거워 하고 있습니다. 한국 사람들에게 5월은 마냥 즐거운 계절은 아닌 것도 잘 알고 있습니다. 마음이야 항상 젊게 유지하려고 하고 있습니다만 신체적인 나이는 5월을 수십번 이상 겪었기 때문에 그 충격적인 5월도 개인적인 경험을 중심으로 기억하고 있습니다. 사실 제 자신은 많은 세월 동안 정치적이지 않으려고 노력한 사람이라 웬만한 정치 논쟁에는 별로 껴들고 싶지 않고 그냥 넘어가고 싶어하는데 요즘에 일부에서 나오는 얘기에는 상당히 신경이 쓰이네요, 세월이 많이 지났고 많은 사람들이 기억이 확실치 않다고 해서 앞뒤를 다 바꿔버리고자 하는 분들도 있더군요, 저야 그만해야죠,

사실은 원래 노래보다도 다른 사람들이 부른 것을 먼저 듣기는 했습니다. 랩이라는 것이 제게 언제나 새롭고 낯선 것이라 노래로 부른 것을 처음 접한 것이 더 익숙하기는 했고요.

분명히 Nelly의 이 훌륭한 노래를 먼저 들었겠지만 아래의 노래가 처음 들었을 때 귀에 쏙 들어오더군요.

이렇게 노래할 수 있는 분들을 아마츄어라고 부르면 안 되겠지만 배경도 그렇고 프로가 아닌 듯하다고 느낄 수 있는 면이 더 어필하지 않았나 생각하고 있습니다. 이 노래를 듣고 나서 괜히 같은 노래를 여러 분들이 부른 것을 들었는데 듣가 보니 Nelly라는 아티스트가 얼마나 훌륭한가 하고 다시 알게 되었습니다, 저 혼자 느낀 감정은 아닐 것이라 생각하고 모든 분들이 알만 한 얘기를 다시 적어 봅니다.

19살에서 21살이 되고 남자친구랑 헤어진 것에 대해 같이 슬퍼하면서 듣다가 그야말로 모든 사람들에게 하일라이트를 받는 Adele을 보면서 앞으로 계속 더 발전하기가 참 쉽지 않겠구나 하고 생각하고 있었습니다. 음악이라는 것이 개인 취향이라고 계속 주장하고 있습니다만 그렇다고 하더라도 제 자신이 편견 덩어리임을 다시 한 번 상기하는 중입니다. Soul이라고 부르든 R&B라고 부르든 이런 유형의 노래/음악은 역시 완전 백인보다는 흑인들의 음악이 아닐까 하고 주장하고 있고요, 본인이 남자와 헤어지고 소외받고 해서 슬픔을 겪었다고 하더라도 수 세대에 걸친 슬픔의 역사에서 나오는 것은 여전히 다르게 들릴 거라고 하고 싶습니다. 조금이라도 더 흥미를 가지시라고 하는 말도 안 되는 소리라고 치부하시고 한 번 들어보시기 바랍니다. 제가 밀고 안 밀고 하는 것은 사실 경우에 안 맞는 얘기고요, 고향 영국에서는 이미 완전히 떠 있죠.

"흐르는 강물처럼'이라는 영화도 있었지만, 강에 대한 느낌이나 은유는 동양이나 서양이나 상당히 비슷하구나 하고 생각하게 만드는 노래입니다. 흐름, 따라감, 강물을 따라 큰 바다로 나아감, 등은 어디에나 있는 생각인 모양입니다.

이미 영국에서 가장 크다고 하는 곳에서 공연하고 있죠. "여러분"이라는 노래가 조금 생각나기는 하는데 제 자신의 말도 안 되는 편견으로는 "오바"하지 않고 부르고 있다고 주장하려 합니다.

댓글이 안 보이게 된 지 한참 되었는데요. 어떻게 다시 살려야 되는지 알지 못 합니다. 저는 운동경기랑 관계가 없는 사람이지만, 괜히 울고 싶은 마음이 생기면 한 번씩 보고 있습니다.

왜 아직도 여기에 없었는지 -While you see a chance by Steve Winwood

지금도 그런 마음에서 크게 벗어나지는 못 하고 있습니다. 음악하면 Rock이 최고이고 악기하면 Guitar이고 하는 말도 안 되는 그런 자세입니다. 순전히 제 개인적인 취향이니까 그저 무시해 주시면 감사하겠습니다. 지금보다는 훨씬 어리고 음악을 더 많이 들을 때 그런 경향이 더 강했는데 그런 제 마음에 강타를 몇 번 날린 아티스트입니다. 제게 건반 악기도 얼마나 멋있는지를 알려 주었고, Rock이 되었든 Blues가 되었든 음악의 역사에 한 줄을 확실히 그은 사람이죠. 제가 위에 쓴 대로, 모든 앨범을 다 샀었고, LP로 많이 샀었기 때문에 닳을까봐 아까워 하면서 듣곤 했었는데 왜 제가 지금까지 여기에서 언급을 하지 않았는지는 오늘 생각해 봐도 잘 모르겠습니다. 물론 한 곡에 대해서는 얘기한 적이 있더군요.

이 앨범이 철수 형님이 선정한 100대 명반인가에 들었는지는 모르겠지만 안 들어가 있으면 말씀 드려야 할 곡들이라고 저는 생각합니다.
