생각보다는 많은 분들이 알고 계시던데요. 압구정동에 'Peter, Paul and Mary'라는 LP판 가득 있고 단발머리 하신 남자 DJ분이 있는 집입니다. 맥주 마시면서 예전 노래 들을 수 있는 곳인데요, 제가 먼저 얘기한 적은 별로 없는데 가끔씩 다른 분들이 말씀 하시더라고요. 저도 몇 번 갔는데 갈 때마다 이 곡하고 Four Seasons의 'O What a night'을 신청해서 듣곤 했습니다.
저는 대학 이후로 잠 자는 장소를 이리저리 전전하느라고 항상 짐을 줄이려고 노력하다 보니 아주 중요하다고 생각하던 LP외에는 다 버렸습니다. 최근에 vintage audio를 추구하는 두 분을 만나서 예전 LP들이 얼마나 비쌀 수 있는지에 대해서 들었습니다. 크게 아쉽지는 않습니다. 제대로 된 LP player도 없어서요. 지금도 다양한 음악을 들을 수 있지만 이 band가 활동하던 시절에는 힛트곡들이 참 다양했다고 생각합니다.

이틀 동안 여기 저기 돌아다닐 일이 있어서 실내에서 비를 보며 낭만적으로 즐길 수 있는 입장은 아니였고 좀 불평하는 편이였습니다. 비도 비지만 4월말에 이렇게 추워도 되는 건지, 사계절 옷을 다 꺼내놓고 있어야 하는 나라가 되었나 하고 생각했었습니다.
Eurythmics는 아주 재밌는 duo였죠. 두 사람 다 musician으로서 쟁쟁한 실력을 가진 사람들이었다고 생각하고요. 이 노래를 비롯해서 소위 음악성, 대중성을 다 가진 곡들을 여러 개 남겼습니다. 오늘 저는 이 노래 제목을 반복하고 있었습니다. 옛날 기억을 그리워하거나 그런 거 아니고요, 그냥 비좀 그만 왔으면 하고요.

옛날 음악이 무조건 훨씬 더 훌륭하다고 생각지 않습니다, 절대로 - Bruised by Jack's Mannequin
제가 열심히 듣는 철수 형님 방송에서 며칠 전에 Train이라는 band의 음악을 소개하면서 위와 비슷한 얘기를 했었습니다. 물론 Beatles, Pink Floyd, Pat Metheny 등 예전부터 지금까지 훌륭한 사람들이 많죠. 그렇다고 해서 지금 현재 음악을 만들고 연주하고 하는 사람들이 '일반적으로' 떨어진다고 얘기할 수는 없다고 봅니다. 저는 Train도 좋지만 제가 좋아하는 다른 band를 소개하고 싶네요. 제가 써 놓고 보니 제목이나 글 내용 자체가 좀 말이 안 되는 얘기네요. 예전이나 지금이나 잘 찾아보면 훌륭한 musician들 당연히 많습니다.

이 비디오가 맘에 들지는 않습니다. acoustic version도 좋지만 Fender Stratocaster 나 Telecaster를 들고 그야 말로 심금을 울려 주는 소리를 들려주는 것을 소개했으면 좋겠는데 제가 못 찾겠네요. 수 많은 사람들이 guitar의 신이라고 얘기하고 하지만 어느 순간부터인가 노래도 그 명성에 못지않게 너무 잘 하죠. 'Slow Hand'라는 별명도 너무 잘 어울린다고 생각합니다. 저는 이 노래와 연주를 너무 좋아하지만 아래의 video밖에 연결해 드리지 못 해서 너무 죄송한데요, 좀더 나은 게 있으면 알려 주십시요. 물론 'Bell Bottom Blues' 말고도 수 많은 명곡을 들려 주었죠. 그저 제가 아끼는 Eric Clapton의 명곡 중의 하나입니다. 아시는 분은 옛날 분이라고도 하겠지만 bell bottom pants라고 하면 바지가 밑으로 내려가면서 넓어지는 바지를 얘기했었죠. 이 노래도 아마 그 바지가 유행했던 시기에 나왔을 듯 하고요.

제가 좋아하고 또 거의 모든 분들이 좋아하실 곡들이 참 많은데 찾아보니 추천할 만한 음질을 가진 것을 제가 못 찾네요. 죄송한 말씀이지만 원곡을 찾아서 들으시라고 할 수 밖에요. 제가 음악을 모으기 시작했을 때 돈이 없기도 했지만 소위 '원판'이라는 게 구하기가 너무 어려웠습니다. Eric Clapton을 좋아해서 정말 고민과 연구 끝에 몇 장 샀는데 제가 산 것들은 별로였던 음반이였습니다. Eric 형님이 약물 중독으로 오락가락한 적이 좀 있거든요.
