12월은 제게는 아주 편한 달이였습니다. 경기가 안 좋다는 것이 제일 큰 이유였을 거라고 지금 생각하고 있습니다만 개인적으로 망년회 등의 모임이 어느 때보다 적었고, 해야 되는 일들도 같이 일을 해야하는 상대방이 휴가 떠난 사람들이 많아서 멀뚱멀뚱 하고 있거나 대놓고 놀고 있어도 별로 양심에 가책을 받지 않았습니다. 게다가 12월 뒤 쪽의 두 주에는 일주일에 하루씩 쉬는 날들이 있어서 지내기 더욱 편했죠. 한 날은 임시공휴일이였고 한 달쯤 지난 지금까지도 여운이 많이 남는 날이고 밤이였죠. 저같은 사람이 이래저래 이야기할 수 없는 날이였습니다.

이 노래가 생각난 것은 선거 때문이 아니고, 미국의 어느 초등학교에서 정말 믿기 어려운 총기 사건이 일어나고 오바마 대통령이 나와서 하던 얘기 때문입니다. 써 준 글을 읽을 것이라든가, 어느 정도 진실이 있는가 하는 말씀도 당연히 하실 수 있겠지만 어쨌든 제게는 본인도 가슴이 아픈 사람이라고 느껴졌습니다. 그게 사실이면 좋겠고요

미국에서의 총기 문제에 대해 뭔가 한다고 하기는 했는데요. 과연 가능할지... 생일, 졸업, 결혼 등 인생의 많은 일들을 경험하게 될 어린이들이 그렇게 된 거에 대해서...
