색깔에 대한 표현 차이 - Yellow River by Christie

좀 오래 된 노래이긴 하지만 들으면 기분이 좋아지고 상쾌한 노래라고 생각합니다. 제가 여러 나라 말을 알지는 못 하지만 한국말처럼 색깔에 대한 다양한 표현이 있는 언어가 또 있을까하는 생각을 종종 합니다. 색에 대한 생각과 정의가 문화권에 따라 조금씩 다르다는 것도 가끔씩 경험했습니다.

'누런 강' 정도 될까요? '노란 강'은 아닐 거고요. 흙이 많이 섞여서 흘러 내리는 강을 말하는 게 아닐까 합니다. Red Violin 또는 Red Guitar라는 표현을 쓰는 것을 봤느데요. 물론, 같은 물건을 쳐다보고 있었습니다. 그 사람이 그 표현을 쓰는 것을 들어서 그렇지 제가 먼저 얘기했다면, 고동색 바이올린, 나무색 기타라고 얘기했을 겁니다. 그 사람 말을 듣고 나서 붉은 색 기운이 보이기 시작하더군요. 어렸을 때 단어 시험 대비하느라고 'red=빨강'이라고 외워서 그러는 거겠죠. '뻘건 바이올린'이라는 표현이 더 적절했을 겁니다.

가사를 읽어보니까 전쟁터에서 벗어나 고향으로 돌아가는 것을 노래한 건가 보네요. 노래가 나온 시기를 봐서는 베트남 전쟁을 말하는 것으로 생각합니다.
